At the first governing board meeting of every month during the 2025-2026 school year, Mesa Public Schools will recognize a Spotlight School. The Spotlight School at the September 11th meeting was K-8 STEM Academy at Red Mountain Ranch. Below is a video about the school and Principal Jaclyn Bycott's remarks on each honoree.


Spotlight Student: Roland Pierce

Roland Pierce is an incredible fifth-grade student who has been a part of the K-8 STEM Academy community since first grade. He is incredibly dedicated to his schoolwork, always using the design process to tackle challenges and taking great pride in every project and assignment he completes. He's also an incredible friend to his classmates, and his wonderful sense of humor makes him a joy to be around.  Roland truly represents the spirit of our student body—a student who is dedicated and works hard every single day.

Spotlight Staff Member (Certified): Melissa Mell

Melissa Mell is a beloved teacher who has dedicated many years to her school and students. As the only employee who helped open this school and still remains at the K-8 STEM Academy at Red Mtn. Ranch, she's a true treasure, and her passion for teaching and music has had a wonderful impact on countless students. She often works hard behind the scenes without needing any praise, and her positive attitude leaves a lasting impression on everyone she meets. The school community feels she deserves a moment in the spotlight before she retires this year. Melissa will be very missed next year! 

Her colleagues feel that because of her many years of experience, Melissa would be a fantastic representative for the school. Her long career has given her a unique understanding of how students and classrooms have changed over time, and her perspective on these changes have been incredibly valuable. She's a dedicated teacher who genuinely cares about her students and the community! 

Spotlight Staff Member (Classified): Kathy Adam

Kathy Adam is an outstanding instructional aide, known for her unwavering dedication to all students. She is a compassionate and patient member of our staff who consistently goes above and beyond to help students reach their goals, whether they have an IEP or not. Students absolutely love her because she is kind and creative while also holding them to high expectations for both academics and behavior. She has a unique talent for building strong relationships with students, making a lasting and positive impact on them.

What makes Kathy so special is her willingness to wear many hats around campus. You can find her supporting students in the cafeteria, on the playground, or in the classroom, always with a smile. She's a true asset to the school, always ready to lend a hand with a positive attitude and a wealth of knowledge. Her colleagues and students see her as an exceptional representative of the school community.
